Sustainable Food and Agriculture

The sustainable cultivation of quinoa is starting to become a reality in Morocco thanks to the work of local small farmers who have found the support of Domaine Lion Agriculture S.a.r.l., an entrepreneurial project that in addition to helping and advising farmers, markets quinoa throughout Morocco.

Quinoa can play an important role in the eradication of hunger, malnutrition and poverty in the world, so much so that the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) has declared 2013 the International Year of Quinoa. The idea is precisely to stimulate the development of this crop all over the world, but also to show that it is possible to meet the challenges of the modern world by using the knowledge accumulated by our ancestors and by turning to the small farmers who are today the main producers of this plant.

It is in this context that Peter de Leeuw had the idea to take advantage of the fact that Morocco’s climate provides the necessary conditions for this crop to introduce quinoa, native to the Andes, into the country’s fields and its domestic market.

Domaine Lion Agriculture provides farmers in Morocco with the tools and knowledge necessary to grow quinoa and manage their crops in an efficient and sustainable manner. At the same time, the company is developing a commercial network for this product through specialized magazines as well as in some restaurants.

Those responsible for this new initiative are working with their employees to combat climate change by cultivating a plant, quinoa, that consumes little water and by developing intelligent drip irrigation systems. They plan to green fields that are now deserted.

We advise farmers in order to foster cooperation and contribute to the sustainable development of quinoa cultivation, and take care of the sale of this sustainable agricultural product. Peter De Leeuw. Domaine Lion Agriculture.

Domaine Lion Agriculture works with local farmers and allows them to optimize their economic profit in a sustainable way, both in their crops and in the sale of their products. In addition, this work supports the local economic fabric made up of small and medium sized service companies in the agricultural field. At the same time, the company is also involved with local initiatives to combat poverty.

This entrepreneurial adventure began its activity last year and plans to consolidate the production and consumption of quinoa in Morocco. It is also exploring the possibility of implementing this experience in other geographical areas in Africa, as well as developing derivative products beneficial to human health and the environment.
