Meet RAMA, the pioneering Tunisian brand where pharmaceutical biotech meets sustainable fashion. Driven by founder Rahma Segni, RAMA is creating high-performance, smart connected sportswear that reduces waste, empowers local artisans, and transforms the industry for positive social and environmental impact. Read the full story of this game-changing fusion of science and style.

From leggings, tops and jackets to adjustable bikinis, every garment is created to empower its wearer, a reflection of the brand’s commitment to offering products that serve both casual users and high-performance athletes seeking ecological innovation that lies in combining sustainability, inclusivity, and technology.

The story of the brand is inseparable from the journey of its founder, Rahma Segni. She grew up playing in her mother’s atelier, where she cultivated a love for stitching before following a scientific path: she graduated in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and built a career in the pharmaceutical industry, integrating science into her daily life and nurturing a technical mindset. The combination of her family heritage and scientific background shaped RAMA’s mission and vision: to create high-performance, sustainable fashion grounded in research and functionality. Rahma goes even further by ensuring that such functionality is always aligned with positive impact. This fusion brought RAMA Swimwear & Activewear to life, a Tunisian brand designed to inspire sports people and transform the industry through ethical and technological innovation.

The fusion of fashion and science gained even greater strength with the development of the smart connected garments that led to the RAMA Move project, currently in its prototype phase. This line features products equipped with integrated sensors that monitor movement, performance and activity in real time, an unprecedented innovation in the regional market. This approach established RAMA as a forward-thinking brand guided by technology and sustainability, and it soon gained visibility and recognition: Rahma Segni was named among the 100 Leading Investors in Africa Awards and selected as one of the Top 100 Tunisian Women Entrepreneurs by ENTREPRISES magazine. The brand has since built partnerships with athletes and public figures, launched increasingly sophisticated products and begun a strategic expansion through specialised boutiques.

“Building a sustainable brand in a developing ecosystem required overcoming structural limitations, training suppliers, educating consumers and turning obstacles into opportunities” said the founder.

The journey, however, has been far from easy. One of the important moments occurred during the development of the smart prototype, when the team discovered, just days before a pitch, that the piezoelectric fabric they needed was not available in Tunisia. Amid laughter and quick improvisation, the team transformed the setback into proof of its creativity and resilience. Today, RAMA is in a phase of consolidation and international expansion, increasing production, strengthening partnerships and refining its smart prototype, which is set to revolutionise sportswear across the region. The company is now ready to enter new markets in North Africa, the Gulf and beyond.

RAMA’s social and environmental impact lies at the core of its identity. The brand uses recycled and OEKO-TEX-certified fabrics, reduces waste, minimises its carbon footprint and values the work of local female artisans, supporting community development. On the technological side, this smart clothing encourages healthier lifestyles and improved athletic performance while maintaining sustainable production methods. By merging inclusion, technology and sustainability, RAMA is building a fashion business model that benefits both people and the planet, a crucial mission within one of the world’s most polluting industries.

Looking ahead, the brand envisions becoming a regional hub for smart, responsible sportswear, where science and design work hand-in-hand to promote health, wellbeing and environmental awareness. Its ambition is clear: to transform fashion into a tool for positive impact, inspiring movement  not only of the body, but of society as a whole.
