Nescafé® collaborates with Greek Switcher Staramaki for a more sustainable future

Staramaki is coming to the big supermarket market, close to Nescafe products, as Nestle Hellas, the Greek subsidiary of the largest food and beverage company in the world, has believed in the innovative product produced by the dedicated team of Staramaki in rural Kilkis. In fact, the social enterprise operates in rented premises just outside the city of Kilkis.

This great promotional action, initiated by Nestle, is a great boost for the Social Cooperative Enterprise, which has managed so far – winning distinctions and significant recognition for its work – to produce a 100% natural product, utilizing its wheat-based product , from the by-product of a crop that, even today, is burned in the fields.

The Staramaki replaces the plastic straw, in the most ideal way, as for its production, no energy is consumed, as is the case with paper and bioplastic straws. The Staramaki is available from the beginning of 2020 on the market, in three different lengths and also in an organic reed stem case. However, it is difficult for a product to become known when it is available in only 17 physical points of sale and, of course, from its e-shop. By fate, the most “environmental-friendly” consumers learn about it. But now, with its promotion by Nestle, side by side with Nescafe products, in supermarkets and large halls, a new prospect of increasing sales opens up for The social cooperative Staramaki.

Through this collaboration with Nestle Hellas, Staramaki will become known to the general consumer public – everyone knows that the Greek’s favorite drink is coffee – while it will also take off productively, since the production unit will be strengthened with new machines in Kilkis.

Staramaki, is the impressive achievement of the work of a group of people dedicated to the circular economy, who want to use productively and without burdening the environment, every small piece and residue of agricultural production, creating income for the cooperative members, and additional income for farmer producers.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world”

Staramaki, established in 2019, has ten members and has come to employ up to an additional 5 people when there are increased production needs. The positions expected to be created in the next 12 months are around 20-25, also due to the increase in production capacity.

As a consumer, this summer you can make a more responsible choice when you buy your Frappé.

"Today our production capacity does not exceed 200,000 staramakia per month, but with the technological additions that will be made with the support of Nescafe, it is expected to reach 1 million pieces", said Mr. Stefanos Kamperis, engineer and founding member of Staramaki social entreprise.
