Kibbutz Horshim, Israel
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Construction

Since its founding in 1983, Termokir Industries has gone through a number of life cycles. The company specializes in the manufacturing of sustainable building materials, including insulation panels, coating materials, and sealants using advanced technologies.

Today, the industrial company found in Kibbutz Horshim on the southern area of the Plain of Sharon has been recognized for its responsible production and recycling policies. The latter began in 2001 when Israel faced a raw material crisis, and the resulting recession. The crisis was the catalyst for Termokir Industries to adopt a recycling strategy, which has expanded to include the recycling of more than 300 tons of waste each year. This waste is reused in the production process of new materials.

In 2003, Termokir Industries adopted another strategy to encourage Israeli industries to use primarily locally-produced materials. The company subsequently introduced an environmental policy that is based on waste reduction, material recycling, and energy efficiency.

Between 2007 and 2014, the company purchased new equipment and improved the plant’s facilities, decreasing power consumption by 9%, while boosting production by almost 90%. The initial investment in a more energy efficient operation was quickly written off by the money saved in reduced energy costs, and the savings that came from recycling.

Termokir Industries has been a pioneer in Israel when it comes to establishing a lifecycle analysis (LCA) on its products to evaluate their environmental impact. Nowadays, most of its products carry an eco-label and the company has been repeatedly recognized for its environmental policy and social responsibility measures.
