Resource Efficiency and Sustainable Waste Management, Sustainable Food and Agriculture

Born from a son’s passion to help his father better manage his land, IrWise is not just a company; it’s a vision. Founded in Tunisia by Mohamed Mekki Maalej, IrWise embodies hope and resilience in a world where agriculture is constantly challenged by climate change.

The story begins modestly, in 2020, on the farms of Sfax, with a simple phone call to automate irrigation. This dream has grown into a cutting-edge technological solution that is transforming farmers’ daily lives today.

An idea born from love of the land, amplified by technology

The global pandemic has not only isolated people, but also inspired Maalej to rethink agriculture. What was a simple family help has transformed into an ambitious project, combining the forces of IoT (Internet of Things) and artificial intelligence. IrWise, launched in 2023, does not just simplify farmers’ work; it connects them to a sustainable future where every drop of water counts.

“We conducted extensive research to understand the challenges farmers face and the potential of emerging technologies in agriculture,” says Maalej.

A revolution for farmers

IrWise is on a mission to make precision agriculture accessible to everyone, wherever you are. With a smart, wireless irrigation system, farmers can now monitor and optimize their crops with previously unimaginable precision. Sensors collect data on soil conditions, weather, and crop health, while AI algorithms translate this information into actionable recommendations.

The result?

Less water wasted, healthier crops, and increased agricultural productivity.

As Ahmed, a farmer from Testour, says, “This system is magic, and we desperately need it.”

With the growing threat of climate change, it’s no longer just about farming the land, but preserving it for future generations.

A dedicated and passionate team

IrWise’s success is based on a multicultural and multidisciplinary team, composed of experts in engineering, artificial intelligence, data management and agronomy. Each member brings unique expertise, but they all share the same goal: to reinvent global agriculture and provide farmers with tools to ensure a prosperous future.Alongside Mohamed Mekki Maalej, pioneers like Marouen Hammami (CTO) and Morsi Hamza (CIO) play a key role in this technological adventure.

Proven solutions and real impact

The cost-effectiveness study conducted by IrWise shows that in less than 8 months, a farmer using the system sees his water consumption reduced by 35%, his electricity costs drop by 20%, and a 15% reduction in the use of pesticides and fertilizers. Not to mention increased productivity and optimized resource management. This is not just an improvement – it is a real revolution for those who feed the world.

A Promising Future

Since its inception, IrWise has overcome many challenges, whether it be financing or demonstrating the profitability of its solutions. Thanks to incubation programs such as SwitchMed and international competitions such as EyeOnBlue, IrWise has been able to rise to the ranks of the most promising startups.

“With the tested prototype and the green business plan developed according to SwitchMed’s methodology, I was able to seduce the jury of the EyeOnBlue competition organized by SwitchMed in 2022 and win the 1st prize in Rimini,” explains Maalej.
