Sustainable Textiles and Clothing

These days, certain brands are ideally starting to incorporate post-consumer materials, i.e. trash, into products. However, a growing number of companies are going a step further, looking to upcycle harmful debris from the ocean.

Unlike recycling, upcycling utilizes materials for a second round and a more valuable prospect inspiring environmentalist entrepreneur Javier Goyeneche to combine fashion design and recycled materials and launch ECOALF. The initiative aims at saving plastic from the sea to make casual contemporary clothing with an eco-friendly sense.

Sustainability in fashion design:

Born in 2009, ECOALF is an urban minimalist brand aiming to create the first generation of garments and accessories with the same properties and design as the best articles on the market.

To this end, the company has been creating recycled fabrics from decommissioned fishing nets, plastic bottles from the bottom of the ocean, cotton waste, and used tires. They went as far as to turn discarded coffee grounds into a high-quality raw material used in jackets, shoes, and bags. With this approach, ECOALF contributes to reducing environmental impact and creating low resource consumption.

ECOALF manufactures designer clothing and accessories with recycled materials of various types. Its aim is to create a new generation of fashion products made with recycled materials with the same quality, design and technical properties as the best non-recycled products.

Recognition and international presence:

Being dedicated to the environmental cause, ECOALF has received many corporate awards for their innovations throughout the years of their environmental work. For their efforts in local communities and their innovations, in 2011, the UN awarded ECOALF, the “Women Together Organization Award” for the best concept of world fashion revelation.

Additionally, the company presented its experience at the 8th World Congress of Blue Economy in 2013, and in 2014, it received the “Best Product for Sustainable Development” award from the European Environment Awards for Enterprise, organized by the European Commission.

The company’s good reputation has attracted the attention of renowned designers such as Sybilla, one of Spain’s biggest designers. She decided to collaborate with the sustainable fashion brand to create an unprecedented collection of eco-friendly clothes and accessories.

“I admire very much the work of ECOALF researching textiles from waste materials. This is the path I am more interested in at the moment in fashion. It is a great joy to know that we can now make beautiful and practical things and at the same time confront one of the biggest problems of our time,” Sybilla commented on her experience with ECOALF.

With the technical knowledge of ECOALF in the development of fabrics from recycled materials and the expertise of Sybilla in trendy designs, the collection consists of vibrant colorful reflecting the colors of nature prints and fine cuts to give it an edgy, fashionable look.

ECOALF is a unique foundation that delivers high-quality products, in parallel with waste management. To advocate for upcycling is to promote awareness on marine activism and what constitutes the lifeline for sea creatures.
