Ksar Hellal, Tunisia
Sustainable Textiles and Clothing

Ksar Hellal, cradle of the Tunisian textile industry, is seeing the birth of a new generation of committed entrepreneurs. Lamia and Asma Hamrouni, two passionate sisters, founded LinenColor, a brand that celebrates zero waste craftsmanship and natural dyeing for sustainable, responsible and accessible fashion for all.

The heritage of textiles and the call for innovation

Born and raised in Ksar Hellal, a city known as the heart of the Tunisian textile industry, Lamia and Asma have been immersed in the world of textiles since their early childhood. In 2019, Lamia turned her passion towards eco-design, founded the company LAMI MODE in collaboration with her sister Asma, and together, they breathed new life into the textile tradition of their region.

LAMI MODE stands out for its holistic approach to sustainable fashion. The company is committed to upcycling old weavings and creating unique tailor-made haute couture pieces.

“Our products are aimed at everyone but we have an already conquered target, that of people with sensitive skin, babies and lovers of healthy textile products” founder Lamia explains to us with pride.

Their range of products now extends with their new brand LinenColor to household linen, bath linen and accessories, all made from a unique combination of textile fibers and natural vegetable dyes.

Indeed, Lamia and Asma passionately concoct their own dyes from dye plants and agricultural waste. Each stain tells a story, imbuing each piece with unique, authentic beauty.

“We make our own natural dye from the skin of fruits such as pomegranates, olive leaves, or grape vines, or even from madder roots...we are constantly researching and It’s exciting,” says Asma, the co-founder.

The unwavering commitment to sustainability

LinenColor advocates complete circularity in its business model. Production follows a zero waste approach, favoring natural fibers such as cotton. Rainwater is used to minimize environmental impact.

Lamia and Asma have opted to manufacture items that generate the minimum amount of waste. These are then reused, to avoid wasting raw materials. The natural dye, newly created by natural pigments, can be reused up to five times, further reducing LinenColor‘s ecological footprint. Indeed, natural dyes are biodegradable and non-toxic, as opposed to chemical dyes which are harmful to the environment.

Growing success and promising ambitions

LinenColor has already won over a clientele in Tunis and is preparing to expand internationally. The products have been tested by an independent laboratory and meet European standards.

The future looks bright for LinenColor. The two sisters aim to obtain eco-responsible or ecological certification and expand their production. Their unwavering commitment and contagious passion make them pioneers of sustainable fashion in Tunisia, inspiring the new generation of entrepreneurs.

LinenColor is much more than a brand: it is a deep commitment to ethical and responsible fashion. Their creations, the fruit of revisited ancestral know-how, combine manual labor with natural dyeing, breathing new life into the textile tradition of their region and creating new employment opportunities.
