For many years, Abo El Hasan has been interested in devising agricultural solutions for Palestinian farmers. She would mingle with the farmers and dig deeper into their problems, then work hard to find a solution. “In Palestine, dates and palms are produced and consumed in large quantities. I also found out through the Agricultural Research Center in Palestine that it is possible to reduce evaporation of irrigation water by 20 percent – by using bed sheets,” she commented.
Abo El Hasan’s goal is to preserve the three most important elements of the environment namely water, soil, and plants. She wants to maintain water irrigation, organic materials and microorganisms with the growth of weeds under mattresses maintaining the increase of green areas.
Abo El Hasan was part of the SwitchMed Incubation Programme as a green initiative. “It contributes to raising social and entrepreneurial capacity and clarifying the environmental goal of pilot projects,” she says. “It has a trained staff and environmental culture to create global solutions.”
