The Switchers Shine at Arab SMEs Summit 2024

Invited by  MedWaves, the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre for SCP (former SCP/RAC) the Switchers, a dynamic group of 14 sustainable entrepreneurs, actively participated in various events, showcasing innovative solutions and forging valuable connections.  

In addition, Switchers like Safe and Clean for environmental services, UltraBiotech, Innov’algue, Agro Cedrus, Algaepool, NETAALEM (J’apprends)Linen Color, Dom-Energies Renouvelables, Jafife,  actively engaged with Qatar’s thriving startup ecosystem, demonstrating the tangible benefits of networking and exploring regional opportunities. 

 

"I had the privilege of pitching and being selected as one of the top two startups to present on the main stage," shared Hichem Mokni, founder of NextAv.

This experience highlights the transformative power of the event and the potential to attract investment and drive growth through sustainable practices.  

The Switchers Talks 2024, held as a side event on November 20th, served as a platform for knowledge sharing and empowerment. Participants learned how to effectively measure and communicate their triple impact: environmental, social, and economic. This theme resonated deeply with green entrepreneurs seeking strategies and inspiration to expand their positive impact. 

Entrepreneurs like Omar Itani (FabricAID, Lebanon), Aisha Dweikat (Aisha Design, Palestine), Motaz Elrawy (Ultra Biotech Company, Egypt), and Khadija Habyby (Mofilet, Morocco) showcased their impactful ventures. This vibrant exchange highlighted the collective strength of The Switchers Community, where diverse solutions address pressing environmental and social challenges. 

 

Another key event was “Unlocking the Potential of the Circular Economy for Arab Mediterranean SMEs.” Switchers such as Buthaina Aburoza (Qutoof, Jordan), Motaz Elrawy, Kais Aouieb (Chitelix, Tunisia), and Guglielmo Mazzà (ReFuse, Lebanon) discussed the challenges and opportunities facing MSMEs in the region. Mazzà emphasized the vital role of green markets and eco-innovation in driving sustainable transformation. This insightful discussion underscored the importance of circular economy principles in fostering a more responsible and resilient future.

Overall, the Switchers’ participation at the Arab SMEs Summit – ROWAD 2024 was a resounding success. They shared valuable knowledge, forged strong connections, and gained exposure to a dynamic and supportive entrepreneurial environment. The experience was characterized by “meaningful connections, a vibrant community, and incredible collective energy.” This collective spirit fuels their mission to build a more sustainable future for the Mediterranean region and beyond.
